It’s Day 11 of our 30 Day Summer Fun Challenge. Have you tried any of the ideas yet? If so, please leave us a comment and tell us all about it.
Today, I scream, you scream, we all scream for homemade ice cream. Summer and ice cream just go together like salt and pepper, milk and cookies, cheese and crackers. You can survive without one or the other but then life just wouldn’t taste as good. (Can you tell I’m hungry while I’m writing this.)
To make today extra special and fun for your kids, make homemade ice cream together, have an ice cream sundae bar, or best yet, do both.
Homemade Ice Cream
There are quite few recipes online for ice cream you can make in a Ziploc bag with kids. Here’s the first one that caught my eye from Kaboose.com.
At the Chocolate Cake Club, we sell a great that is easy and let’s you make two different flavors at once, in case the kids can’t agree. Whichever method you choose, it’s bound to be fun and delicious.
Ice Cream Sundae Bar
Ok, you’ve got your ice cream, homemade or one of your favorite store varieties. (I’m a vanilla girl myself much to the dismay of the chocolate ice cream lovers in my house. When it comes to ice cream, it’s all Vanilla, all the time. It is the finest of the flavors.) Now, get creative with a sundae bar to put all of the ice cream parlors to shame. (Are they even called ice cream parlors anymore?)
Here’s a list of ingredients to inspire the tasty imaginations of kids and adults (really just big kids) alike:
- Caramel or Dulce de Leche
- Chocolate Fudge/ Chocolate Syrup
- Maple syrup
- Crumbled milky way bars
- Crushed malt balls
- Crushed vanilla wafers
- Toasted coconut
- Cinnamon sugar
- Chopped nuts
- Dried cherries or Maraschino cherries
- Candied dried ginger – (mixed with vanilla ice cream and caramel syrup – editorial aside “Purely awesome!”)
- Red hots, sprinkles, or crushed rock candy
- Don’t forget the whipped cream!
- Crumbled raw cookie dough – We like the tubs of Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip that you can buy at Costco
I’m a firm believer in making it a party, inviting others to share in our family fun. Invite another neighbor family over to participate and ask them to bring their favorite toppings. Heck, invite the whole neighborhood.
Don’t want to get quite this complicated? We sell a fun that your kids or grandkids will love. It includes 4 cute ice cream bowls and spoons, a scoop, toppings and even an old-fashioned ice cream parlor hat.
