  1. My favorite family vacation memory is driving around with my grandfather trying to find this amusement park that was located no more than 1/2 hour from their house. We drove for 2 or 3 hours to find it. :o) Luckily he was pretty laid back and never got worked up about being lost. We always had such fun in the car rides!

  2. My favorite family vacation memory is going to Florida every year with my kids.
My husband and I used to go by ourselves until we had kids but now we love just getting away & spending quality time with just the kids even if we dont do anything at all its great just being together as a family & making it a yearly trip to look forward to.

  3. We are taking our 1st vacation as a family this year. My husband and I have been married for 6 yrs and have 2 small boys ( a 2 yr old and 10 month old) I didn’t take very many family vacations as a kid and is hoping to change that tradition with my family. We’ll be going to Florida later this year and can’t wait for my boys to fly on an airplane and step onto a beach for the 1st time in their lives.

  4. My recent favorite family vacation is taking my granddaughter and her family to Charleston SC for a milestone birthday/anniversary celebration. We stayed in a lovely b&b downtown and my granddaughter thought it was fantastic. It was in the fall so we went to a pumpkin patch, a pumpkin festival and of course took the carriage tour of Charleston. She is 4 and still talks about it and it was a year and a half ago. Precious memories.

  5. In the fall of 1999, my girlfriends paid for me and my son Jake to go to Disney World.

My fiance had just been tragically killed in a freak workplace accident, so in the midst of such pain and grief ~ our surprise all-expense paid trip was such a bright spot and treasure.

Jake was just 5 at the time, and it was an amazing adventure for the two of us!

Hopefully some day I’ll be in a financial position to return the favor! :) What a blessing! :)

  17. While we are in the process of creating new vacation family memories with our 3-year-old, my own memories center around summers spent up at my grandparent’s cabin in Lake Tahoe. There was something about returning to the same place, so steeped in family, that made me feel like it was a place I belonged to. I hope that I can give that to my kids and grandkids at some point in the future!

  18. When my sister and I were about 8 and 10, our parents rented a motor home to for a two week trip to “see America”. Mom had done her best to make sure that us girls had things in our bags to pass the time, including True Blue tapes for our Walkmen, the latest installments of Judy Blume and hook latch rug kits. (We’re talkin’ about the 80’s here folks!) We were superbly entertained, perfecting our timing to press play on our Walkman at precisely the same moment as to perfectly align the start of La Isla Bonita so we could sing together.
As we drove for hours on end to reach one historical landmark or another with our eyes busily taking in Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret., our father would look back from the drivers seat to find that we were otherwise engaged and not properly appreciating the scenery and yell, “Look out the windows G*dd*mnit!” At family get-togethers we can still get belly laughs out of this one almost 25 years later!!

  22. I was trying to come up with my favorite childhood vacation memory and I was having a hard time picking. I was very fortunate in that my parents loved to travel and we lived overseas so we had some pretty awesome travel adventures. I remember driving to California and leaving in the middle of the night so us kids could sleep on a mattress thrown in the back of the car. I remember going to some resort in Tennessee where we could jump off of a diving board onto a giant inflatable ball in the pool trying to hang on. I remember going sailing in the Virgin Islands on a chartered sail boat. We got to see the world and have fun together – so thanks Mom and Dad for all of the memories!

  23. My favorite family vacation memory just occurred last October when I took both girls and my husband to my hometown in Florida for a week. We had the best time with my mom and cousins recreating the memories I experienced when I was growing up as well as starting new traditions. Spending the day on the beach, staying up late watching movies, visiting family….so much fun!

  46. One of my most favorite family vacations has to be going to Disney World when I was a child, it is such a magical place! I think it is even more magical when you are lucky enough to take your children and relive the magic all over again. I would move into the castle if they would let me!!

  47. I think my favorite memory is going to the beach every summer to visit my grandparents. We loved the ocean, rides, boardwalk and being with them. it is a memory i cherish and hope my kids will have similar memories.

We are taking our first family roadtrip to Myrtle Beach this April. 9 hours in the car. We plan to make lots of stops and just relax and have fun with the kids. Then they will get to spend the week with their grandmother.

    We can’t wait!

  48. Some of the best vacations we have had were doing the opposite of what was expected. We ate Dinner entrees at breakfast. Breakfast at dinner time. Got some very interesting looks at the restaurants. Also we took the map of the area and then we “Drive into the folds”. We would purposely get lost !!! We met interesting people, found new places and wonderful small details about the areas we visited. Most of all we bounded as a family because we had to work as a group to find our way around places, which made for great moments.

We had a decked out van w/ a pop up camper so we traveled in style….lol! Such a great trip that I want to do the same with my kids when they are a little bit older.

  55. My favorite vacation is about to happen. I’m going to PA to visit my granddaughter and daughter. My daughter and her husband are having a big St. Patty’s day celebration and my granddaughter, Sydney, and I are going to stay in a hotel to have our first pajama party! I’ve ordered the pajamas and rolling stuffed animal (frog) tote to give her for the “big” night. We’re planning to go to the pool at the hotel and have dinner “out”. Then we’ll get into our jammies and play with her toys and read some books. I’m sure it will be a trip to remember!

  60. My favorite vacation memory was of a trip to Nashville to the Grand Ole Opry. We also got to go to Opryland when it was in it’s heyday of being a cool amusement park. The highlight of our trip though, was going to Loretta Lynn’s Dude Ranch. Can you tell my parents loved country music??

  61. When I was a kid we would take awesome family trips in the summer, taking along my mom’s mom and also her sister and her kids (my cousins), plus we would stay somewhere house-like, so it was so much fun and cozy. I have great memories of these trips, but one that stands out is when we went to Hilton Head, S.C., and went on a this mystery cruise. Yes, I see now that it was very kitschy and probably not that great, but at the time I was so into the whole mystery. And then my dad, who wasn’t following the plot at all, solved the whole mystery in about 2 seconds…I was just in awe! We got some fun prize and a plaque that still is hanging on the wall of my parents’ house.
As far as the family I’ve made myself, we just went to Disney World, our first family trip (our girls are 3 and 6), and had a blast. Meeting all the characters and princesses, going on rides, seeing shows–it was all just one fabulous time.
The prize pack looks too good to be true. I think there might be some fighting over who would get to pull that beautiful roller bag!

  77. My favorite family vacation memory is when our son and daughter-in-law and little granddaughter flew from CA to PA at halloween. We dressed the baby up in a big furry lion outfit and then we met up with our other son & daughter-in-law, who live here in PA & our other granddaughter. She dressed up like a clown, and we met up at Hershey Park for Halloween in the Dark. We also got the entire family together for our first family picture ever with all four kids and both grandchildren!

  85. My favorite family vacation happened two years ago. My husband and I took our three kids, ages 7, 4 and 8 months old, to the Grand Canyon. It was November, and we had packed ‘San Diego’ jackets for our trip. This means they were thin hoodies and zip ups. When do San Diegian’s ever need more than that? Much to our surprise, as soon as we exited the car, it started to snow. It was the first time the five of us were in the snow together. It was the most beautiful site I’ve ever seen.

  92. My favorite is from when I was a child. There were 4 kids in my family and we did not often go anywhere but my parents saved up money for over a decade for a trip to New Zealand (before it was popular to travel there). We rented a minivan and drove a bit through both islands. Amazing adventure (albeit with several family tiffs) We are taking a trip across the pond this summer and the rocker bags and other things are perfect for my toddler who, bu the way, is insisting he hates planes. Yikes! Crossing all fingers and toes

  100. My fav. family vacation moment is when I took my son and family to oldforge and he went horse back riding. I ended up being flown from the horse, I didnt get hurt but boy was it scary when it happened! Afterwards though as I was covered in mud my son walked to me (he was 4 at the time) and said “wow mom must have been some ride!”…he was up front and didnt see me fall so he had just thought I was muddy from riding. We all got a good laugh out of it on the drive home and will remember it forever <3

  102. It would probably have to be a toss up – seeing the first space shuttle take off from Cape Canaveral – very, very exciting for a 6th grader to be able to see a piece of history up close and come back to school and share . . . AND riding Amtrak from MN to MT to see Glacier National Park. It was breathtaking – think “The Sound of Music” to an exponential power! It was thrilling to see a real glacier up close, and the flora and fauna of MT was spectacular.

  104. Our favorite family vacation was in Thanksgiving 2008 to Arrowhead PP. We were camping in our new camper and we could see a small dear right outside the camper! The weather was great. And the kids had a wonderful time. It was amazing!

  105. My siblings and I were so excited because our parents were taking us to AstroWorld on vacation and I was finally tall enough to ride on the scary rides. We drove all the way there, just to find out that it was closed. I was so bummed. My dad saved the day by taking us to the beach in Galveston. Everytime I see Chevy Chase’s “Vacation” all the memories come flooding back!

  107. My “favorite” (or should I say most memorable) family vacation memory is taking a driving trip across the east and my mom accidentally left me at a gas. She didn’t know I hopped out of our oversized van when she pulled away. I still can vividly remember running as fast as I could trying to get the car. Luckily someone drove off to flag her down. This was way before cell phones.

  110. My favorite experience was in Mammoth Lakes, CA on a ski vacation. My 4 yr old daughter (at the time, now 5) learned how to ski all by herself for the very first time. That’s when I realized it was time to let go of that harness and allow her to be in control. That was not easy! But it was very exciting and a very proud moment.

  111. i would have to say that my current family favorite memory would be taking our then 3-yr. old daughter to disney world. Other than that…the cruise that my husband & I took in 2002 that everyone thought we would come back engaged from, but didn’t. Ha!

  113. My favorite family vacation memory would have to be Halloween at Disney World. Our kids were enthralled with the characters in their costumes and the trick-or-treating in the Magic Kingdom! It was sooo much fun that we’ve been back at Halloween two more times!

  114. We have only been on one family vacation thus far and it was amazing. So much so we have plans to return this May. We love to stay in a beach house in Panama City, Florida. Our first trip was last May with my husband and then 2 1/2 year old son. We plan to return this year with our Moms (both grandmas). Who wouldn’t love emerald green ocean and white sand beaches. Relaxing in a beautiful home or on the beach. Not to mention Destin is just a few miles away with loads of shopping and fun.

  115. My favorite family vacation memory was when we would stay out at the beach on Anna Maria island for a week each summer. I loved being steps from the beach…going in & out as we pleased. And the way the wind and sand felt on sunburned skin, yummy seafood, and of course when we were a little older, seeing what cute boys our age we (myself and my cousins) could meet! ;)

  116. My favorite family vacation memory is actually a place – Hume Lake. My parents started taking us there when I was about three and we have gone back to the same cabin almost every year since. When my husband and I were married, that is where we went on our honeymoon. Now that I have two kids, we have had to begin renting a bigger cabin. But we still go every year with my parents and our close friends. It’s a good time with family that we look forward to every summer. Counting down the days until this year’s trip…. :)

  122. My favorite memory is reenacting a whole vacation’s worth of memories for my dad when he realized he hadn’t loaded the film correctly! We had to go back to the beach, etc on the last day of our trip to Florida so he could take pictures of us all over again!

  123. My favorite vacation memory was when both my parents, my sibling (brother) and my 6 year old daughter took a gold prospecting trip. It was the first for all of us and my daughter enjoyed digging for rocks and gemstones, while we digged for gold, lol. It was a truely wonderful and bonding vacation for the family.

  124. My favorite vacation memory was a family trip with my 2 boys to Myrtle Beach. This was the first time they saw the ocean. My oldest boy had the best time when Dad and him woke up before any one else and went out on the beach to collect seashells.

  125. What a wonderful giveaway! My best vacation was three years ago with my husband and daughter. After living apart for 7 months due to Army obligations, we went to Ft. Walton Beach for some much-needed family time. It was the first time all three of us saw the ocean. FANTASTIC trip and memories for a lifetime. Thanks for bringing to mind one of the most special times of my life :-)

  134. When I was a teen and my brother was in junior high, we went to Disney World. My brother couldn’t take a friend with, so he pouted all the way there and made everyone miserable. After a day in Orlando, my parents had just HAD it with him and didn’t want to leave the condo. So, I went to Disney World all by myself for three days and had the BEST time. I had not expected to be so much fun for a teenager and I really enjoyed the freedom at that age. Needless to say, my family looks back on this week as the WORST family vacation, whereas I see it as one of the best.
